I want to hire a veteran, now what?

Updated: Aug 16

That’s the number one question I get from hiring authorities in corporate America every week.

Many people understand the value of military service and what it does to humans. After service, military service provides the civilian workforce with an employee that has the ability to be a safe operator, manage the whole person, strong leadership skills, you name it.

That's what the military puts inside of us. But the problem is, so much of corporate America has been trained to hire through a job description.

And the job description was created in the early 1900s when you had high unemployment rate, companies were trying to find the biggest barriers to entry for their job seekers to make sure only the right candidates came in for them to interview.

And a lot of companies are still doing that, they're trying to exploit specific experience. And if you're hiring out of your industry, hey, that's okay, you can do that.

But if you're looking for talent to develop and grow instead of experience to exploit, which is usually why you're going for military talent, it doesn't work.

So, what I've created is my performance based job description model along with my video content process that helps the organization understand the right military experience to talent, but also what we're doing is working with that hiring authority to understand the intent of the role, so they can express that correctly to the military talent, so that job seeking veteran can make the connection themselves. And then when you have that initial interview, it's open, authentic, and transparent.

You as someone that wants to hire, recruit and retain military talent can interview the whole human and understand, is this the right talent for you to hire and develop and grow within your company.
